History of surfing – how the hype of surfing arose
The most beautiful place in the world is for you the sea and you enjoy nothing more, like riding a wave ?!
But how did this hype of surfing come about?
Approximately In 1720 the Polynesians brought surfing to Hawaii, where the sport spread rapidly. It was much more than just a sport back then, for the Hawaiians it was an important part of their religion.
Everyone was surfing, men, women and children – even kings surfing.
However, there were very strict rules on who could surf on which beach.
The first written evidence of surfing comes from the journal of European captain James Cook, who discovered surfing in Hawaii.
Probably the most famous surfer is Duke Kahanamoku, he was one of the best swimmers and surfers in Hawaii and won in 1912, the Olympic Games in the 100m freestyle with his special crawl style.
At that time he traveled around the world and surfed wherever he could. Thus, the surf boom reached California and spread rapidly to Australia.
Surfboards & Shapes
With a great variety of sizes and shapes, there is the right board for every surfer and every surfing condition.
