Tarifa is located at the southernmost tip of Europe, where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet and you have a breathtaking view of Africa.
Tarifa is famous for “El Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno” a castle located on a high promontory on the sea.
The name bearer of the castle, Alonso Pérez de Guzmán was governor of the fortress and a major hero in Spanish history.
In 1294 the castle was besieged by Arabs who held its son prisoner. They asked him to hand over the place on the fortress, otherwise his son would have to die.
Instead of handing over the city, Alonso Pérez de Guzmán sacrificed his son and even shot his own knife to kill him.
The historic city center is surrounded by thick city walls and consists of small winding streets.
Thanks to the surf hype that reached Tarifa, the city is now very international and has grown through tourism.
From the entrance to Tarifa to the city center, you will be greeted by countless surfer shops. The typical surfer style of Andalusia is reflected in its many international restaurants and tapas bars.
Bolonia is on the way to Tarifa. The small fishing village is famous for its natural dream beach and the excavation of the Roman village.
In Bolonia is one of the best preserved Roman settlements in Spain, Baelo Claudia.
The unspoiled nature with dune and surrounding mountains is part of the “Parque Natural Estrecho” – the Natural Park Road of Gibraltar.
It is over 30 meters high, around 200 meters wide and provides a breathtaking panoramic view of Africa.
